I have been denied for a South Korean visa and I am sad but not broken. I know exactly why I am sad, it’s all because I paid for our trip with a regular rate and not a promo fare. I know that I shouldn’t be denied for our application. But then I am aware that I might be denied for some various reasons
The reason for my denial was “You failed to prove the purpose of entry to Korea” Whatever that means! they should tell me the reason why they concluded it. Does that mean they think we are poor enough to travel? Or I have that super strict consul processing our application
Anyway, here are some details of my application just in case we’re in the same situation in some ways. You might learn a thing on how you should proceed with your own visa application process.
First of all, here’s my status: I’m a probational employee in the Philippines ( I am in an Academe so I need to wait 3 years before regularization), without an invitation from a Korean. So my requirements are basically under the “For Employees” list. (See Visa Requirements for Different Categories)
DISCLAIMER: This is NOT a “GUIDE” for applying for a South Korean visa. This post only shares the experience and frustrations I have been through processing our supposed to be Vacation Trip and only a reference purposes just in case you are in similar situation.
1. Application Form
You can get the Korean visa application form at the Korean embassy website ( It must be the latest one)
The application form must be filled out completely
I did that , completing all the application requirements and being truthful as much as possible. But then why they didn’t approved my application :'(
It is important to never leave any blank entry in the application form. And if you can’t provide information, you need to write Not Applicable or something like that.
I even made sure that I already have a hotel accommodation as it was one of the question when you are answering application form . I know that providing the contact information was one of the very important part of the process, and I just provide the details of the place where we are going to stay. Why did we reserve a hotel room in advance when it’s not yet sure if we can travel there? It’s because of travelling purposes. ( Don’t worry I did’t even paid for a single cent)
I may have been too excited and booked a flight to Incheon even before realizing that we needed a Visa
2. 1 piece Passport size colored picture
It’s an obligatory option you will need while processing your application. So I had no choice but to go to a photographer to have my passport size photo taken because the last time I had it was over a year ago so I need to update it (you need at least 6 months latest Passport size ID picture).
3. Original Passport (should be valid for more than 6months)
My recent passport have stamps ( twice in Singapore and 1 Malaysia stamp) yet they denied me. So I guess don’t hold in that theory that you will be approved when you have a traveled stamp. People say that the more countries you have travelled, especially if they’re first-world countries, the higher your chances of approval. But I guess it’s not or maybe, just maybe when you’ve been in America maybe you have that 90% chance of not being denied
4. Photocopy of Passport Bio-page (page 2)
Well, we definitely have no problem with this.
5. Original & Photocopy of valid visa/s and arrival stamps to OECD member countries for the past 5 years (If applicable, and Korean Visas will not be counted)
This one doesn’t apply to me.
6. Original Certificate of Employment
When I applied, the following information was specifically required: contact number, address of company and date of issue, job position, hiring date and even your compensation
I thought that the important thing when applying for the visa is that you can prove that you’re financially capable to pay for the trip and that you will return to the Philippines but I guess I was wrong again.
7. Original Personal Bank Certificate
I used my salary account for this matter. Since last year I start saving up at least 30% of my income,
We applied for the visa last month (April 2016) and I was on track to having 50,000+ Php in my account at the moment ( Oooops. I already used it for my rerouting flight. That is the perk of buying a not promo fare).
I thought it was going to be okay, considering that all the blog post mentioned I read about that the Korean Embassy has confirmed that there’s no minimum amount required for bank deposits.
But to be sure, I worked so hard so that it would reach 50,000 Php.
I guess the Korean embassy may say that there’s no minimum requirement and that ADB isn’t necessary but it’s possible that these still mattered when it comes to approving the application. :'(
8. Photocopy of ITR (Income Tax Return) or Form 2316
I really do believe I had no problem with this since our Accounting Officer provide these form for me.
(Unless the Korean Embassy wanted every centavos in our ITR to be written :'( )
Submitting Our Application
You need to apply personally, no worries that won’t took you so long. I guess we just stayed there for about 5 minutes. It’s just passing of you documents and you will be given another paper to keep for you when you will receive your passport 5 days after your application.
In short, it would been better for you to process your visa application personally. It is located at 122 Upper McKinley Road, McKinley Town Center, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig city
I actually searched for a travel agencies that can process the visas, too. But of course you will be charged a processing fee of almost 2,000 Php or more. ( That’s what I didn’t realized that its okay for me to add an additional fee for the sureness of my travel :'( damn this part why did I not thought about it). But of course if you do it personally, there’s no processing fee.
To cut this depressing story short, I was denied for the visa.
ASKING YOURSELF WHY THIS STUFFS HAPPENED TO ME?
I really can’t helped it not to think why I was denied in for a Korean Visa even though I have the complete documents that there is no loop-holes in my application all the information I have given them was true and correct and I have the contact information for my hotel. And I had booked return-flights.
Perhaps it was because of the C.I they have made in the Company I worked to. Make sure it was directly contacted in your Accounting Officer or your HR. In my case, since I’m in an Academe job post the Admin answered all the question that the consul tried to asked.
Haaaays :'( why is it so hard to enter South Korea even as a budget tourist?
M O V E D O N.
see you next time Korea, for now I won’t hate you. But I hate your embassy people HAHAHA. I will be satisfied watching your Kdrama and watching LoL tournament via Youtube.
